A Year with Astrology And Parts of Our Bodies
Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse: March 3, 2026 | New Moon: March 19, 2026 | Spring Equinox: March 20, 2026
Though every March each year contains multitudes, the month of March this year holds a rare density of thresholds. A Full Moon paired with a Lunar Eclipse early in March, followed by a New Moon and the Equinox only days apart, creates a sense of compression, as if several chapters are turning at once (to parallel this with Chinese astrology, Mimi Young discusses this further for the Year of the Fire Horse). The body registers this first, often before mental awareness or language catches up. The feet, long associated with Pisces, have been doing their work without much fanfare, absorbing, sorting, allowing experience to pass through rather than be resolved, which can also be described as what the Water element does. As March unfolds, sensation travels upward, concentrating in the head and brain, the domains traditionally associated with Aries season. The nervous system sharpens, direction begins to matter, all related to the element of Fire.
March: From Water to Fire
Water governs how experience moves through, without the urgency to step into action. Over the winter months, attention has settled into slower internal rhythms, where sensation through contact and repetition, particularly in the feet, registers weight, temperature, and subtle shifts in balance long before they become conscious thought.
Fire reorganizes that process by moving awareness from the feet upwards so it gathers itself toward the head, the face, the eyes. As a result, perception becomes more selective. The body begins to favour orientation, signalling a readiness to move rather than simply receive. There is a narrowing of attention (and intention), and a realization that some threads now matter more than others.
The transition between these elements is often felt along the front of the body. The throat responds first, either softening or bracing. Breath becomes more pronounced, less diffused, then cognitive thought follows, not necessarily decisive, but certainly alert. Though March may not ask for conclusions, it does ask for responsiveness that can meet what is coming at the moment.
March’s Zodiac Focus and Body Placement
Pisces (Water): Feet, lymphatic system
Aries (Fire): Head, brain, face
The practices offered this month are meant to support this upward movement while staying rooted to our source, namely, our feet. The transition from Pisces to Aries within the body reminds us that while energy is encouraged to rise, it should not be at the expense of grounding. In other words, fire nourishes when it remembers where it came from.
Practices for March: Pisces into Aries
Working with these areas supports clarity, alertness, and the body’s capacity to initiate without strain. The feet remain the foundation, even as attention moves upward. Fire is steadied by contact with the ground.
Toe Stretch and Foot Dome Activation
Purpose: Restores strength and sensitivity in the feet, re-establishes communication between ground and nervous system.
How-to:
Stand or sit with feet flat on the floor. Gently tuck the toes under, stretching the soles of the feet.
Hold for several breaths, then release.
From standing, lift the arches of the feet slightly by drawing the ball of the foot toward the heel without curling the toes. Hold briefly, then relax. Repeat slowly.
Focus: Pisces teaches receptivity through contact. Let the feet remember how to respond rather than brace.
Low Lunge with Cactus Arms
Purpose: Opens the front body, supports hip extension, and introduces upward energy associated with Aries.
How-to:
Step one foot forward into a low lunge, back knee resting on the ground.
Lift the torso upright and bend the arms into cactus shape, elbows at shoulder height, palms facing forward.
Maintain steady breath for 5 to 8 cycles, then switch sides.
Focus: Fire begins with readiness. Let the posture feel alert without urgency.
Mini Backbend on a Block
Purpose: Encourages extension through the spine, opens the throat and chest, supports clarity and direction.
How-to:
Lie on your back with a yoga block placed under the upper back, supporting the shoulder blades.
Allow the head to rest naturally on the floor or another block, adjusting support as needed.
Arms can rest by the sides or open gently. Stay for 1 to 2 minutes, breathing steadily.
Focus: Fire rises most clearly when the throat is unguarded. Let extension feel spacious rather than effortful.
Kapalabhati (Breath of Fire)
Purpose: Builds heat, sharpens attention, and activates the nervous system.
How-to:
Sit upright. Take a few grounding breaths.
Begin short, rhythmic exhales through the nose, allowing inhales to occur naturally.
Practice for 20 to 30 breaths, then rest. Repeat once more if comfortable.
Focus: Aries teaches initiation through breath. Keep the practice brief and attentive.
Fire-Aligned Altar Practice
Purpose: Offers a ceremonial way to mark transition and intention through flame.
How-to:
Create a simple altar incorporating Fire, such as a candle or contained outdoor fire, observing local safety and seasonal considerations.
On the Full Moon or the Equinox, speak intentions aloud.
Allow the fire to witness what you’re committing to, or inviting in.
Focus: Fire’s clarifying qualities is palpably felt by being in its proximity.
Full Moon, New Moon, and Equinox Reflection
Astrological Tarot Correspondences
Where February asked us to stay with the emotive, March begins to test what can be brought forward into action of what has already been felt. The transition from Pisces into Aries moves perception from diffuse awareness into focus, from sensing into orientation. Tarot offers a symbolic language for this shift.
Pisces is often associated with The Moon within the Tarot tradition, a card from the Major Arcana that speaks to perception shaped by rhythm, instinct, and partial visibility. Aries corresponds with The Emperor, a figure of structure, agency, and decisive presence. Together, they describe a passage from inner knowing into external form, from experience that circulates inwardly to action that takes ownership for its impact.
The Moon (Pisces):
What am I still processing beneath the surface? What does not yet want definition, but continues to influence how I move? The Emperor (Aries):
What is ready to be claimed, shaped, or acted upon? Where does clarity ask for follow-through rather than further reflection?
Journalling
March includes a Full Moon paired with a Lunar Eclipse, followed by a New Moon and the Equinox, marking a period where awareness shifts quickly between internal and external registers. With your journal, allow writing to unfold in a way that pairs feeling with thinking. Let what needs to emerge, emerge. You may find that since March’s insights tend to arrive through multiple directions, that mind mapping may be a more suitable format than stream-of-consciousness style journaling.
Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse (March 3):
Reflect: What patterns or habits are losing relevance? Where has clarity been delayed, and what is now difficult to ignore?New Moon (March 19):
Reflect: What feels ready to begin, even without certainty? What form of action feels proportionate rather than reactive?Equinox (March 20):
Reflect: Where am I being asked to recalibrate rather than resolve? What would balance look like if it were something practised rather than achieved?
Integrating the Energy of Aries
We’ll be welcoming the sign of Aries in a Spring Equinox celebration with sound bath, exploring the themes of flow, renewal, and release through movement and vibration, and guided by Andrea Clark the co-creatrix of Nectar Retreat on Bowen on March 20.
For those wishing to explore Aries in a fiery manner, consider Alchemy of Creativity Day Retreat: Aries + Stoking The Flame half-day retreat on March 29. For the afternoon, expect practices such as breathwork to sharpen focus while gesture drawing and bold line work of a live figure model integrates somatic movement with art making.
And if you’re feeling called to stay at home, the Nectar at Home Wellness Membership, offers a varied range of practices in yoga, pilates, breathwork, meditation, and other contemplative classes support an ongoing relationship with the elements and the seasons.
UPCOMING EVENTS ON BOWEN ISLAND
If you’re the type that is already fiery, perhaps inviting some earthiness could provide some sturdiness. After ignition comes grounding (so if you’re typing “guided meditation near me”, this offering is it!). Nectar’s co-creators, Andrea Clark and Satjeet Pandher will be facilitating Meditation and Relaxation Through Silence Day Retreat on April 12, 2026, centres meditative walking as a way of integrating what has been set in motion. Walking returns awareness to the feet, now steady rather than absorptive, pacing Fire so it can endure.
